"John the Baptist Part 2" - Larry Hall 9-16-07
John the baptist prepared the way for Jesus.
Everyone has a purpose.
Verse Luke 3:16
John baptized people to repentance to prepare their hearts.
Pride causes sin. Israel took pride that they were Abraham's seed.
They thought they needn't repent.
John said "I die daily" you must repent daily. They
wondered was John the Christ.
Luke 3:16 John answered them all, "I baptize you with
water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of
whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Everyone should repent and turn away from sin. Do your part we are the body we need to do what we
are told. You can't live for God and the world. We need to be purged by God's fire so sin can be no
more.
Jesus was glorified when he ascended to heaven. After John baptized Jesus then Jesus went to ministry.
What was John talking about? What did he mean about being baptized by the Holy Ghost?
Evidence of Holy Ghost speaking in tongues (languages unknown)
Acts 11:15-17 "As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the
beginning. 16Then I remembered what the Lord had said: 'John baptized with water, but you will be
baptized with the Holy Spirit.' 17So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the
Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?"
God's gift is for everyone.
John 3 Nicodemus "How can an old man be born again?" Through Jesus by spiritual means.
Jesus replied "Verily, verily except a man be born of water and the spirit you cannot enter the
kingdom of heaven." God wants us to have his spirit. Don't stay babies, grow up.
First believe there is a God.
Acts 19:1-7 1While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at
Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you
believed?" They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." 3So Paul asked,
"Then what baptism did you receive?" "John's baptism," they replied. 4Paul said, "John's baptism was a
baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus."
5On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. 6When Paul placed his hands on
them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. 7There were about
twelve men in all.
Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?
